Salt Spring Island is the "jewel of the southern Gulf Islands", situated in the Georgia Strait on the south west coast of Canada between Vancouver Island to the west and Vancouver and mainland British Columbia to the east. The west coast of British Columbia is generally known for its mild temperate climate. Due to its geographical location, highest year round temperatures in Canada are recorded on Salt Spring Island.

The mild weather and the overall relaxed and easy-going atmosphere have helped to draw the very special people who have created the interesting community that is Salt Spring today.
